Music Self improvement

Every ending means a new beginning

I just lost a long-time gig.  I played there since before going to Spain 5 years ago.  Wow!  Over 5 years!  I hope I have improved!  I know a lot more songs and can play guitar in a variety of different styles.  Thank you long time gig.  And the food was great, all things considered!

I loved that gig because it was so laid-back.  There was no rush.  It was getting to the point where it wasn’t going anywhere but it was about to go somewhere very good in a little bit.  We were rehearsing a whole bunch of new material.  But maybe that material is better for another location.

What am I getting at?  That now I have my Wednesday open to work on new material.  I am ready to play at a concert/stage-level. Rather, I am ready to work towards that goal.  Playing gigs at restaurants and as background music does hold much challenge.  One can always play better, more creatively, more accurately, with more soul.  But it is at the point where I close my eyes and I feel like I am playing for people on a stage, even if there is only one person listening.

Thank you gig for being so kind to me for so long.  I feel like it was the perfect length of time.  Any longer and the gig would have started a new direction.  I wish we were still playing there but it isn’t necessary at this point.  I wasn’t going to play there for the next month anyways.  And at some point I am going to Brasil and Jamaica and Costa Rica and Spain and Africa.  I feel for the bass player.  But he’ll be more than fine.  He’s a great player and will find other opportunities.  And the drummer is great too and will probably be going on tour a lot sometime soon.

So the ending is hopefully the beginning of playing lots of beautiful music!  Peace!
