Great books and articles as guides and motivation

I have been meaning to write about some of the books that I have found educational and motivational.  They would fall into the self-development, self-help, personal growth and personal development category.

Here are some great books that I’ve been reading that may also be valuable additions to your reading catalog.  All these books have a serious amount of content.  They are all books I will or have reread multiple times. They also offer practical tips and step-by-step information in most chapters.

Of course, probably no one will agree with everything written but I try to find what might work for me.  If I disagree with something, I do try to take their perspective into consideration.

Personal Development for Smart People

The combination of truth, love and power create the ideal ingriendients for personal growth.  The combination of the 3 result in true intelligence.  Steve Pavlina basically has boiled down the key elements to personal growth (truth, love and power), and presents many ways to align oneself with these elements.

Maximum Achievement

Brian Tracy talks about how to find and achieve one’s personal goals.  He talks about a lot of ideas that I had not really verbalized before, so it’s interesting to learn from his book.

Gorilla Mindset

Mike Cernovich just published a book about personal development and growth.  I like this book because he provides a lot of detailed step-by-step information.  2 main ideas I still remember off the top of my head: treat yourself like you would a very good friend – don’t be so hard on yourself and exercises to have better posture which will improve ones outlook on life.  (This mostly has to do with sticking your chest out and rolling your shoulders back, within reason obviously so everything is well aligned

The Power of Full Engagement

Energy management is the key factor in being present and engaged in life.  The four types of energy are physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Are here are some websites and articles that I find important.  Please check them out if you get the chance.

Steve Pavlina

He has tons of great articles.  I would recommend starting from the beginning in 2004.  Not all articles may be applicable but there’s tons of great stuff.

I’d like to mention one important philosophical perspective/question.  Are we okay just the way we are or do we need to “get better”?  This question illuminates important light on the subject of personal growth.  Here’s some responses that I have developed.

  • Basically, both perspectives hold truth and value, therefore I am inclined to use both manners of perception.  For example, I choose to love myself as I am, but I also seek to develop new habits that will improve my day-to-day and my happiness and wellness over a long period of time.
  • Balance is important.  Focusing on the past or future too much (in terms of personal growth and goals) means that a person may not being mindful of the present moment.
