Hey everyone! Best wishes and hope all is well! I made a video earlier this week about a cool practice idea. I usually do it in 5 to 10 minutes and it’s usually a lot of fun.
You could do a multi-track recording, but I haven’t stream-lined that process yet, so I just record the groove/backing track, and then I solo over it.
Process #1
- Record Backing track (with metronome/click)
- Solo and/or practice over it.
You could do this for any style of music.
For example, (since this is a little more off the beaten path in relation to the style of music) If you’re a Western Classical musician, then you could record a backing part and practice the melody, etc over that backing groove.
Process #2
- Record your solo/melody with a click
- Then practice playing the backing part to this recording.
What’s so good about this?
- A fun way to practice
- Gets you hearing different parts
- Working with a metronome
- Hear yourself recorded, and how it fits with another part
- Good for small practice session
