Pro websiting, part 4

From several months ago: So recently I’ve been looking into a lot of different possibilities for making money online.  I’ve been reading Smart Passive Income, which talks a lot about creating your own backlinks.  If the content you create isn’t top-notch, like Steve Pavlina’s blog, you can still generate income from good quality stuff.  With Guitar Kitchen I try to create the best quality stuff I can at that moment in time.  With these other sites I want to continue creating very high quality content.  The difference is that they are areas which I don’t have as much knowledge.  Ultimately, I want to create guitar lessons and music, but these sites are sort of like a fun hobby to try out.

If I did ever make money, I would use it to pay off credit cards, go traveling and stuff, take music lessons, help plant trees and develop websites.

Recently:

I’ve purchased a website that gets a lot of traffic but isn’t high quality.  I was hoping that it would generate a lot of links and traffic to other sites.  So far it hasn’t panned out that way, but I think I have to give it more time before I can be sure.  I’ve realized my three main aims for websites are to provide income for myself, to help plant trees and to provide good quality content to folks coming to the website.  My priorities are backwards I should provide good quality content to readers, then help plant trees and then create income.  It’s hard sometime because I get nervous about not making enough money, which usually doesn’t help the situation.

In terms of backlinks, I am following the advice from SmartPassiveIncome to create two layers of backlinks. But truly it would be better to focus on this website guitarkitchen.com.  It was getting over 200 people a day but in the last 20 days, the traffic has dropped a lot.  Truthfully, it’s the website I would like to focus on but I got sidetracked with these other ideas and am running with them a little bit.  Music and guitar are my passions and these other sites are like silly hobbies to take my mind of my work.  (I am so looking forward to vacation!)

April 2012

Something happened to the traffic and I felt bad for awhile, but it’s not like I update this site much. I would love to and to use it as a motivational tool to learn more about music but I’ve been distracted.  The traffic is down because Google isn’t sending as many people but folks are sticking around a little longer.  I’ve sort of hit a wall of what I would like to write about on the site but will hopefully come up with some cool ideas music and videos.  I am going to try Adsense again and maybe will write an instructional book.  It’s just that there are so many books about how to play guitar that it doesn’t seem to be that necessary.  Maybe one along the lines of 101 Montunos for Guitar…
