I love music and I love playing music.
Recently I’ve been giving serious thought to getting a part-time job doing computer stuff or starting a computer business. But I realized maybe I could apply some of my new-found entrepreneurial skills to music. Basically, I could look for more gigs and find ways of creating beautiful music while also funding other life projects like fancy food and vacations.
Here’s the thought process:
- Realize what you want – to play music a lot and to also have money for life and long vacations
- Find different ways to get there – look outside the gig box and see what ideas you can brainstorm
- Be creative, ask for advice, dedicate time and energy
So here’s a list of pretty obvious things I could do to create more music and perhaps receive the flexibility to pursue projects:
- record albums and sell them online and in person
- look for more gigs and look for different ways to play gigs
- create educational material
- create music videos and make money from ads
- develop my solo repertoire
- learn to sing so I can get singing gigs
- write music
- remix music
- have a cool music website
- teach lessons
- try to win contests
- book for other musicians
- arrange music
- create scores for movies
- be a sound engineer
- have different projects in different places and help develop them to be bigger and better
- find other opportunities to make money, like little apps that musicians might want
- look for passive income in music
Hope this helps (both you and me!)
