This Double in B minor is a wonderful piece to both play and study on guitar.

Within the framework of the 1st Partita for Solo Violin, the Sarabande and its corresponding Double use the same chord progression & similar melodies.

Bach’s Double in his Solo Violin Partita #1 is a very beautiful and lovely piece to hear and play!

Besides beautiful melodies, it also contains 2 (or 3?) obvious voices while only consisting of a single, flowing line of melodic line. And it’s in 9/8, which is a very intriguing time signature.

On guitar, we can overlap the voices, and it creates a rich interweaving of melody and harmony. I’m just learning violin and viola, so I can’t speak to how to play Bach on violin or viola.

In any case, I hope you enjoy this lovely movement – I would recommend all guitarists (and musicians in general) check it out!

I’ve included sheet music as a PDF and image, and a link to the score on Noteflight. Please note, I haven’t written in any musical markings, fingerings, etc on the score, so you’ll be free do so as you see fit!

View the entire Partita at IMSLP – Violin Partita No.1 in B minor, BWV 1002 (Bach, Johann Sebastian)

Thanks for stopping by and best wishes!
